Clay Pellets are ideal for growing orchids under a hydroponic system as they contain capillary properties that wick nutrient solutions up to orchids efficiently and effectively.
Clay Pellets are a clean and easy to use potting media that provides access to better nutrition, less root decay, and disease along with more air to the roots.
Clay Pellets enable orchids to be repotted less frequently due to less media breakdown. They hold moisture but also dry out quickly. This combination of wet and dry is desired by many genus of orchids.
Large Clay Pellets
Before using, rinse and soak pellets. Measure the PH value, as new pellets have a high PH. Adjust the PH by flushing with a mix of 1 part white vinegar to 3-4 parts water. This should result in lowering the PH (Recommended level af about 5.5 - 6.5). Flush with tap water.
Lift orchid carefully from pot and remove all old media from roots. Use clean tools and cut away discoloured, damaged, or rotten roots. Rinse roots with water. Place a layer of pellets at the bottom of the new pot, and place orchid into pot. Fill remainder of pot with pellets. For best results transplant orchid plants after blooms have faded and / or when active new roots are just starting.
Use a grow pot that is either the same size or slighgtly larger than the existing pot, depending on plant growth, as hydroponics does not require a large growing container.
